  Norton Internet Security Alert!

It has come to our attention that some of our customers who have Norton Internet Security installed on their computers are having trouble with many web sites including ours.
Apparently Norton has set the default on their software to block certain functions that they consider to be advertising. With no regard as to how their actions would affect certain web sites. Such noted sites like the Washington Post have had their sites rendered inoperable because of Norton. We found this on the Norton site:

I cannot connect to a specific Web site when using Norton Internet Security.
 1) Go to the Web site that you can not connect to.
 2) Click the Norton Internet Security icon or the Norton Personal Firewall icon on the Internet Explorer toolbar. The icon might be labeled Web Assistant.
 3) Uncheck "Block ads on this site" and "Block pop ups on this site" by clicking the item.
 4) Hold down the Ctrl button on your keypad and hit the Refresh button on your browser. You would hold down the Shift key instead of Ctrl if you are running Netscape or Firefox.
 5) Repeat the above for all the other sites you are having problems with.

Here is a link to the Norton that pretty much says the same thing as above. Please note that the Norton site does not mention holding down your Ctrl key. That is a crucial step to get your new settings to take effect.

Here's a page you can go to that will allow you to test whether or not Norton is blocking ads, complete with directions for how to turn it off:

We would like to inform you that most Internet Service Providers (ISP) now offer anti virus and internet security software for free. Go to your ISP's web site and look for a link. If you can't find it give them a call and ask. It is in your ISP's interest to keep your computer safe and clean from internet attacks. Viruses put increased load on their network and they certainly don't want that. So see what they offer and use it. We use the anti virus software provided by Time Warner's Road Runner service and it works just fine.
